A senior construction solicitor of over 15 years’ experience, May was one of the first lawyers to really start exploring the impact of BIM in the UK, and is a recognised specialist in BIM and related technologies. 

She has advised and acted for consultants, contractors and insurers in preparation of BIM processes, defending and preparing BIM-related disputes, and drafting of bespoke BIM documentation. May is co-author and author of a number of leading papers and various articles on the legal and contractual issues of BIM and construction technology, and has spoken in various places worldwide on these topics. 

She is presently co-writing a white paper on the international legal and contractual impact of the ISO 19650-2 with the author of the ISO 19650-2.

May is co-founder and chair of BIM4Legal, a neutral forum established to support and progress understanding and knowledge sharing of BIM among the legal community and those in industry who instruct them. She is a committee member of BIM4FM and core team member of the 4D BIM Group, as well as an Associate Editor of the Frontiers in Blockchain publication.

May is also a committee member of the Centre for Digital Built Britain’s DFTG’s Roadmap Working Group.  She led the drafting team for the recently released JCT Practice Note on BIM, and is leading the drafting sub-team for the legal sections of the UK Guidance Framework on the BS EN ISO 19650.
